POETRY CORNER – “Lost” by Onyew

LOST

Those eyes

Those haunted eyes

Despair

Relentless despair

Can I tell you what I see?

When I look in the mirror

And see my eyes?

I see no light

I see no hope

I see no love

I see mistakes

I see regret

I see regression

I see brokenness

Reach out

The dark reaches back

Touch me

All I feel is air

Speak to me

The silence screams in protest

See me

There is nothing there

Who am I?

Am I the one I am meant to be?

Or an image of whom you say I should be?

Look in the mirror again

See, I am vanishing!

I reach out

Try to anchor myself

But the mirror fades

I am gone.

Maybe I never was.
